"We'd meet at Rosie's Bar to make plans and talk about the future and how we'd build a better world. We felt contempt for the old people and their stupid, outdated ways. They'd have to move aside and make way for new ideas. We were marching forward into tomorrow and wanted everything to change.
"Then, in time, we eventually saw the reality of it all and grew wise enough to understand what the old people had been saying. But by then we'd become the new old people. Our children had other causes and hated us for being fools." War veteran
Let's go down to Rosie's Bar
Well, I could use a drink
And show those turncoats
Who we are
And tell them what we think
Cut them down to size
And damn their lies
Damn their hearts
And damn their eyes
A new day's just begun
And we're still moving on
So let's go down to Rosie's Bar
Though there might be a fight
Cos this time they've all gone too far
Let's show them we were right
How we'd read the signs
Of the changing times
Not just open mouths
And closed up minds
Their old ways are all done
But we're still moving on
Those halcyon days
Are in the past
And their constant ways
Are changing fast
Gonna wake up with the sun
And we're still moving on
Let's go down to Rosie's Bar . . .
"War doesn't determine who is right - only who is left
As fools kill other fools for their foolish causes"
The International Day of Peace (“World Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. It was established in 1981 when the United Nations General Assembly declared this as a day of non-violence and ceasefire devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle, sitting in silent meditation, or doing a good deed for someone. Or it can involve getting your co-workers, organisation, community or government engaged in a large event. You can also share thoughts, messages and pictures to commemorate Peace Day on social media.
"I call on all warring parties to lay down their weapons and observe a global ceasefire. To them I say: stop the killings and the destruction, and create space for lasting peace."
